As of April 18, 2023, there have been 130 mass shootings in the United States according to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which defines “mass shooting” as one where four or more people are shot or killed, not including the shooter. In the 107 days that have passed since Jan. 1, 2023, this means that there has been an average of roughly 1.54 mass shootings per day, every day since.
While there have been several attempts to present measures that address the gun violence epidemic in the country, a comprehensive piece of legislation is yet to pass both chambers of the U.S. Congress.
