President Joe Biden’s plan to forgive tens of thousands of dollars of student loan borrowers was halted this past June 30 by a decision of the Supreme Court case Biden v. Nebraska, which states that the President did not have the authority to provide relief to the millions of Americans who borrow money to continue their education. Though loan forgiveness had already been gutted by the approval of the bipartisan budget plan earlier this June, this halted Biden’s plans to use his executive power as a means to circumvent a highly divided Congress and a Republican-controlled House.
