The Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee prepares environmental restoration events for the NFL’s “Green Week”

ARIZONA – (January 18, 2023) – The countdown to Super Bowl LVII is on and numerous NFL Green events will take place in the days leading up to the game. The events of Super Bowl “Green Week” will focus on restoring the Lower Salt River, planting trees and pollinator habitat, and putting books, sports equipment, and school supplies in the hands of local kids that need them.

These projects cap off a season of community greening initiatives implemented in Arizona by NFL Green in partnership with the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, Verizon, APS and the Arizona Cardinals. 

Here is a full rundown of “Green Week” Events:

Saturday, January 21 – Lower Salt River Restoration with retired special ops military divers and hundreds of community volunteers

Where: Tonto National Forest, Phon D. Sutton Recreation Area, Phon D. Sutton Road, Mesa

Time: 8am to 12pm (Welcome and media moment at 8:30am)

Who: NFL Green, OdySea Aquarium, FORCE BLUE, Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, Arizona Cardinals, Natural Restorations, USDA Forest Service, Phoenix Zoo, and hundreds of community volunteers

Monday, January 23 – Phoenix Zoo Pollinator Habitat Project

Where: Phoenix Zoo – Africa Trail, 455 N Galvin Pkwy, Phoenix, AZ

Time: 10am to 11am (Media moment at 10am)

Who: NFL Green, Phoenix Zoo, Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, Verizon, Arizona Cardinals

Tuesday, January 24 – Native Health Beautification Project 

Where: Native Health, 777 W Southern Ave, Mesa, AZ

Time: 8:30am to Noon (Best media opportunity 10am to 11:30am)

Who: Native Health, NFL Green, Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, Arizona Cardinals, Verizon, Keep Phoenix Beautiful, Community Volunteers

Thursday, January 26 – Super Kids-Super Sharing sports equipment, book, and school supply donation project with hundreds of local students

Where: The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center Phoenix, 1375 E. Broadway Road Phoenix, AZ

Time: 9am to 4pm (10am Thank You ceremony. Best media opportunity 9:30am- 11:30am)

Who:  NFL Green, Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee, The Salvation Army, Valley of the Sun YMCA, Verizon, Wilson Sporting Goods, the Phoenix Children’s Chorus and the Cesar Chavez High School Drumline

Friday, January 27 – Pollinator Habitat Project with Butterfly Wonderland Foundation

Where: Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC). Remote location – closed to media – photos available post-event.

Saturday, January 28 – City of Goodyear tree planting and beautification project

Where: Historic Loma Linda Park, 420 E. Loma Linda Blvd., Goodyear, AZ

Time: 8am to 12pm (Media moment at 9am)
