Mother’s Day is an important holiday not only in Mexico and the United States, but in more than 100 countries around the world. Generally, this day is celebrated in March or May worldwide, Mexico celebrating it on Wednesday, May 10, and the U.S. on Sunday, May 14 this year. Here are a couple interesting facts about this holiday:
• Americans spend $2.9 billion on flowers alone every year. Mother’s Day also accounts for 26% of all holiday sales at flower shops.
• Many countries celebrate Mother’s Day on International Women’s Day, on March 8.
• The first official Mother’s Day in the U.S. took place 109 years ago in 1914 when Pres. Woodrow Wilson made it a national holiday.
