Ahead of heavy monsoon thunderstorms, City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility crews are clearing brush, debris, and trash from the hundreds of washes that cross our city.

By doing this before the monsoon, it helps prevent obstructions and allows the flow of stormwater to stay within the washes and not overflow the banks, which could damage properties in the surrounding areas during heavy downpours.
Preparations also include building and loading hundreds of barricades that will be placed off to the side of dip crossings.
Protecting the public is the goal of the preparations. The National Weather Service designates the summer thunderstorm season as June 15 through Sept. 30.
