Katie Hobbs, who was elected to be the 24th governor of Arizona in the past 2022 general election, has broken the record for most vetoes issued in a single state legislature session.
The current governor has rejected 63 bills coming from a Republican-controlled house and senate, topping Janet Napolitano’s record of 58 vetoes set in 2005.
Among these bills are proposals that go directly against the agenda of the Democratic governor, but also bills that have flawed language or loopholes; instead of spending political manpower reworking these bills, they are sent to the governor’s desk, where they will surely fail.
