Tucson Water warns of impostors attempting to enter homes

Tucson Water is warning customers that it has received several complaints of individuals coming to homes and asking to be let inside to collect water samples. The individual arrives unannounced, then presents a badge identifying him as a Water Department employee. He also states he needs to check the water in the house, including in the bedrooms. Personal items were discovered missing after one resident allowed the individual to enter the home. Incidents have been reported in the areas of Sunrise and Swan, and Speedway and Camino Seco. Tucson Water reminds you that employees will only come to your home after an appointment has been made in response to an issue related to water quality/pressure or a high water bill. Employees always have an identification badge, wear a Tucson Water uniform, and drive a marked City of Tucson/Tucson Water vehicle. Employees very rarely need to enter the home to collect water samples, as that can usually be accomplished by collecting a sample from an outdoor spigot. Residents who are approached by anybody claiming to be from Tucson Water without making prior arrangements for an appointment nor seeing a Tucson Water uniform or marked water utility vehicle should refuse them entry, and call 911 as soon as possible.
