Good afternoon, Tucson. I’m Mayor Regina Romero here with a fewupdates for you.
In a coordinated effort with other Arizona Mayors, yesterday I signed a letter urging Governor Ducey to Narrow The List of essential services to only include those that support critical infrastructure and protect public health. Moments ago, Governor Ducey announced that he will be taking steps to narrow the list, including closing spas, barbers, and other non- essential locations. Narrowing the list of essential services is an important next step to stop the spread in our community and save lives.
As a reminder for the upcoming Easter and Passover celebrations, certain park amenities are closed through the end of April, including all ramadas, gazebos, playgrounds, outdoor fitness equipment, basketball, bocce and volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and splash pads. I know that it can be difficult to be away from your family, especially on holidays, but we must avoid gatherings to keep ourselves and each other safe.
The department of Environmental and General Services has cancelled their household hazardous waste collection event scheduled for tomorrow, April 4. They are no longer collecting hazardous materials at any of their drop-off sites until further notice.
As of today, small businesses and sole proprietorships can apply for the federal Paycheck Protection Program. The program will provide small businesses with loans that can be used for payroll costs, interest on mortgages, rent, and utilities.
As important as it is to stay home and flatten the curve, it is also important to feel safe at home. Emerge, the Center Against Domestic Abuse remains open and operational. Their multilingual hotline is up and running twenty- four/seven. If you are in need of their service, please call their hotline at 520-795-4266.
For more information about the resources mentioned today, please see the links in the video description.
For today’s spotlight, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank all of the postal workers, delivery drivers, and volunteer drivers who are making sure the rest of us have access to the day-to-day necessities without leaving our homes.

As always, please remember to STAY HOME (if you can). STOP THE SPREAD. SAVE LIVES.
Somos uno.
I’ll talk to you on Monday, Tucson.
