The scorching summer heat in Arizona is nothing new to the millions of people who live in the state; however, this doesn’t stop the more than 3,000 reported emergency room visits and 250 deaths linked to heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses from happening every year in our state.
For this reason, the city and county governments of Pima, Yuma, and Maricopa have established a variety of free water stations and “cooling centers” open to the public. A digital map showing all these locations is available on the Arizona Department of Health Services website.
