PIMA COUNTY, Jan. 20, 2023 – Pima Animal Care Center will be closed to all non-emergency services through the end of the day Monday, Jan. 23, due to multiple positive cases of Streptococcus equi zooepidemicus or “Strep zoo.”
PACC first announced the closure on Jan. 17. Based on additional dogs experiencing symptoms since Tuesday and pending test results, the shelter’s Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Jennifer Wilcox, has recommended that the facility stay closed until at least Jan. 24.
PACC is currently closed to anyone wishing to adopt or foster. The shelter is still looking for fosters for dogs coming in from Animal Protection Services emergencies. Anyone able to foster can fill out this form and shelter staff will be in contact.
The shelter will accept animals for intake in emergency situations only. Emergency intake includes:
• Pets in medical distress
• Pets who pose a public safety risk
• Any situation involving an injury to a human or animal
Anyone who finds a stray that is injured, ill, or posing a public safety risk, please contact the Animal Protection Services dispatch line at (520) 724-5900 and press 4.
