$21.4 million was awarded to the City of Tucson by the U.S. Department of Transportation to replace the current diesel-powered buses used in public transit with compressed natural gas ones. This comes as a result of Mayor Regina Romero’s pledge to make Tucson a more environmentally conscious city, striving to reach net-zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by the year 2030.
According to city officials, the switch from diesel buses to natural gas ones will reduce CO2 emissions by 2,480 metric tons.
