Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and other mayors from across the state sent a letter yesterday, July 9, to Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, asking him to do more to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
They requested the governor to mandate statewide mask use in public settings; increase testing, contact tracing, and isolation for positive cases; and encourage Arizonans to stay at home as much as possible.
At a briefing later in the day, Ducey did encourage people to stay at home (while not mandating it), urged the use of face masks (while not mandating it statewide), and promised increased testing.
He also issued an executive order limiting indoor dining to less than 50 percent of fire code capacity. In a separate letter to Ducey, Ward 6 Tucson City Council Member Steve Kozachik once again asked the governor to rescind the prohibition preventing local mayors and city councils from adopting their own regulations related to public and private facilities. Ducey did not do that yesterday.
