US International Borders with Mexico and Canada to reopen in November

Mexicans and Canadians will be able to travel safely to Tucson, Arizona.

The United States international borders with Mexico and Canada will reopen in November after being closed for more than a year. The exact date of this change in November has not yet been released.

More than 20 million Mexicans cross the border into Arizona each year, spending more than $ 2.5 billion shopping at malls and other outlets, eating at restaurants, staying in hotels, and conducting other business. “The economic impact of the extended border closure, while immeasurable, has been massive,” said Felipe Garcia, executive vice president of Visit Tucson. “We look forward to welcoming our friends from Sonora, the rest of Mexico, as well as our neighbors to the north,” he said.

According to a statement from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas, travelers visiting the United States in November for non-essential purposes must be fully vaccinated and carry evidence of the scheme received, as well as any other required documentation. Beginning in January 2022, the Department of Homeland Security will require all travelers crossing into the United States by land, whether traveling for essential or nonessential reasons, to present proof of being fully vaccinated.

International visitors will feel comfortable arriving in Tucson, Arizona, knowing that proper COVID-related protocols have been established, such as minimal contact, limited seating, social distancing, additional hygiene, and cleanliness measures.

Pima County has implemented a “Ready for You” program that sets minimum standards for hotel and resort restaurants, bars, and pools. The Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association has partnered with the American Hotel and Lodging Association on the “Stay Safe” program that promotes improved cleaning standards throughout the industry. In addition, many companies have independently implemented their own regulations, which visitors can find on their websites, in case this is a priority.
