At the beginning of May, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that it is now safe for vaccinated people to stop wearing masks and covers, and on May 15, the Pima County Board of Supervisors voted to eliminate the mask mandate throughout the County. On May 18, the Mayor and the Tucson City Council voted to remove the mask mandate. While this is a big step towards normalcy, the fight is not over yet. The City and County still ask everyone to follow the CDC’s recommendations, which recommend that unvaccinated people wear a face covering when in a public place. So far, nearly 6 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Arizona, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services. As we begin to enjoy the spaces and see the people we have missed for so long, it is essential that we follow the CDC’s recommendations and get vaccinated. The vaccine is free, safe, and will help keep you and your loved ones healthy.
With the month of May coming to an end, we are all getting ready for summer. The Tucson Parks and Recreation Department has prepared a summer full of activities for people of all ages. During the rest of the summer, families can find Ready, Set, Rec! Trucks at the Reid Park Zoo with general games and special activities for children. Tucson kids can also start registering for Summer KIDCO at 16 locations in Tucson. To avoid the intense heat that we all prepare for each year, the Parks and Recreation Department has already opened registration for light exercise classes. There will also be dynamic classes that include activities such as gymnastics, ceramics, music, health, and fitness. All interested youth and adults must register early before all spots are filled.
Stay cool, get vaccinated and enjoy the summer!
