The City of Tucson is part of a national program to help immigrants obtain citizenship through government programs. Mayor Jonathan Rothschild announced today that Tucson is partnering with Cities for Citizenship, a national group aimed at helping the estimated 8.8 million people eligible for citizenship. “People who want to become U.S. citizens can face hurdles in doing so, including financial hurdles,” Rothschild said. “This new program provides support to immigrants who want to take on the rights and responsibilities that citizenship entails.” Chicanos Por La Causa, Citi, Vantage West Credit Union, Pima Community College, Pima County Public Library, and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services will work with the City to help applicants through the citizenship process. Services that might be offered by locals groups include English as a Second Language and civic classes, a hotline, and citizenship workshops.
