Chicanos Por La Causa Expands its Workforce Program to Southern Arizona

Tucson, AZ-

Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC), one of the largest community development corporations in the country, empowers lives through advocacy, housing, education, business lending, and economic development services in Southern Arizona. After careful evaluation of the job market and community assessment of the local workforce needs, CPLC will now expand its CPLC Workforce Solutions program to Tucson.

This is possible in part thanks to an investment and the partnership to promote economic growth and opportunity from the Citi Foundation. The foundation awarded CPLC a $250,000 grant from their 2018 Youth Workforce Fund. The purpose of this fund is to promote a national initiative that supports community organizations in key cities across the United States to expand their programs and connect low-income youth to a range of employment opportunities.

“We are excited to see the momentum building in Tucson as a result of the engagement of government, private, and social sector leadership with community-minded focus that creates lasting economic impact opportunities,” said David Adame, President & CEO of Chicanos Por La Causa. “Citi is a longstanding supporter of CPLC in Tucson and we appreciate their trust and confidence in us through this new investment to empower job seekers. CPLC Workforce Solutions is committed to work with employers who offer sustainable careers and believe in investing in their employees to create upper mobility.”

The Youth Workforce Fund is part of the Citi Foundation’s three year $100MM global Pathways to Progress initiative, which focuses on career readiness initiatives that provide youth job seekers the full range of services needed for long-term employment and economic success.

“Youth Workforce Fund grantees are helping to equip local youth with the skills and training necessary to fill employment needs in their communities,” said Brandee McHale, president of the Citi Foundation. “By addressing the skills mismatch these organizations are opening new doors for young workers across America and introducing them to long-term, meaningful career opportunities in their local communities.”

CPLC Workforce Solution’s mission is to strengthen the local workforce and connect job seekers with sustainable employment that will lead to life-long success. CPLC’s bilingual staff help job seekers with all aspects of obtaining and keeping a job including General Adult Education classes (GED), occupational training, job placement assistance, and supportive services. In addition, CPLC’s Opportunity Youth Initiative focuses on assisting disconnected youth with work experience opportunities, job placements, training, and a host of other services.
