Governor Ducey allows cities to enact face mask rules

Responding to requests from Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, Ward 6 City Council Member Steve Kozachik, and other government and health officials, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey yesterday, June 17, gave city and town officials the power to require their citizens to wear face masks while out in public.

Mayor Romero is expected to enact that requirement today with help from City Attorney Mike Rankin, and the Pima County Board of Supervisors is expected to follow suit tomorrow.

Ducey previously insisted on a statewide policy encouraging, but not requiring, masks.

His new order does not create a statewide face mask policy but instead leaves those decision up to local jurisdictions.
