Acting pursuant to the authority granted per Tucson Code Section 2-1(b) and Section 21-2(b) and effective immediately, the City Manager and the Director of Parks and Recreation order that the reopening of City facilities to the public, including but not limited to parks facilities that are currently closed to the public, is delayed until at least 8 a.m. on August 3, 2020.
The most recent data from the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Pima County Health Department (PCHD) show that cases of COVID-19 continue to increase in the State of Arizona and throughout Pima County. The purpose for extending the closures of City facilities is to protect the health and safety of City employees as well as our community at large.
Per this order, the City will continue operations and services as we have been doing over the past several weeks. This includes:
- All service counters and lobbies within City buildings, including Ward offices and City Hall, are closed.
- City recreation centers and aquatics facilities are closed.
- All aquatics, youth, therapeutic, and senior programming are canceled. All leisure classes, swim lessons, swim team, and synchronized swim have been canceled for the summer.
- The Senior Meal Program will continue in its modified form.
- Household Hazardous Waste will not be collected at the Los Reales Landfill or the Sweetwater location.
This order does not affect the operations of Tucson City Court, which are subject to the operational directions and restrictions ordered by the Arizona Supreme Court.
This order has no effect on prior orders under which:
- All evictions on City-owned public housing that are based on non-payment are suspended through July 31.
- Tucson Water will continue to suspend water shutoffs through July 31.
- Transit fares are waived on Sun Link, Sun Tran, and Sun Van.
- Park Tucson will continue to offer 15-minute free parking for take-out orders.
Tucson City Code:
Per Tucson Code Section 2-1(b), the city manager may, by administrative order, require the offices of the city to be closed. Additionally, Tucson Code Section 21-2(b) provides that the Director of Parks and Recreation, who acts under the supervision and direction of the City Manager, may order any park or parks and recreation department facility to be closed to the public either temporarily or at regular intervals as the director shall find in the public health, safety or welfare, or for proper operation of the park or facility.
