Penzi, Reid Park Zoo’s baby elephant, is now 3 months old and weighs 452 pounds. Overcoming stomach issues early in life, Penzi has discovered new food and is interacting more with her herd.
In this update, the Zoo officials say Penzi is learning to come when keepers call her and has voluntarily allowed staff to draw blood without giving any reaction.
Since her teeth came in, Penzi’s been interested in eating bits of hay, grass, leaves, and lettuce (her favorite food). She also has gotten better at drinking water and is now able to take the water and spray it behind her ears.
