Good afternoon, Tucson. I’m Mayor Regina Romero here with your Thursday updates.
Tomorrow is National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
According to the CDC, each day more than 100 Americans are killed with guns. Firearms are the leading cause of death for American children and teens. Additionally, access to a gun triples the risk of death by suicide.
In the United States, black Americans are 10X more likely to die by gun homicide than white Americans. This is a horrific statistic that should shock us all.
Please join me in wearing orange this Friday and throughout the weekend to stand in solidarity against the deadly mix of guns, white supremacy, and racism.
I want to take a moment to remind everyone that we are still in the middle of a pandemic. Confirmed cases have begun to increase PLEASE, continue to follow public health guidelines, wear a face covering in public and practice social distancing, especially when you are practicing your 1stamendment right to peacefully protest.
For more information on the resources mentioned today, please see the links in the video description.
Remember, WEAR A FACE COVERING. SLOW THE SPREAD. SAVE LIVES.
Somos uno.
I’ll talk to you soon Tucson.
