The Best Of Two Worlds

Editor’s Letter (May 2023)

Dear readers,
It is always very satisfying to me to be able to share with you a bit of my personal opinions about the events that take place month to month. This month of May, we have plenty of holidays in the United States and Mexico. With climates that are already quite intense in the Arizona-Sonora region, we begin with temperatures reaching the three digits in southern Arizona and Sonora. We were already tired of the cold that lasted up to late March, so let’s enjoy the warm temperatures. Welcome, spring and summer!

This past April 29, Arizona Bilingual hosted its 12th Annual Children’s Day Festival in the facilities of Tucson’s Children’s Museum. It was a day full of joy, fun, and activities for all the kids; you could feel the laughter, the running of the children – how they enjoyed all the games, activities, gifts, surprises, and the environment that bloomed early on. We had a world-class cast with dancers, singers, soloists, norteño groups, traditional folklorico dances as well as jazz, hip-hop, and modern ones. This was all under the direction of our masters of ceremony (MCs, or emcees) Noemi Proaño, Gaby Pardini, Leticia Ortiz, Mario Celis, and yours truly. It was all a great success; we had more than 4,000 people inside and outside the museum in the 5 hours the event lasted.

A very special thank you to this cast, the presenters, clients, news outlets, non-profit organizations, and the different associations, food trucks, and snack cars that joined us. I also can’t thank our great team of volunteers — the 520 Cowboys, the Children’s Museum staff, and above all the great team at Arizona Bilingual News; without them all, this great success could not have been possible. Thank you for this great help in our great events. We are happy and satisfied!

This month of May there are lots of holidays. Without a doubt, the most important for Americans and Mexicans alike is Mother’s Day. In Mexico and other Latin American countries, it is celebrated on May 10, and in the United States it is celebrated on the second Sunday of May, which this 2023 will fall on May 14. Another holiday that will be celebrated is International Day for Biological Diversity, which the United Nations has proclaimed to be this May 22.

Yet another important holiday in May will be Monday, May 29, otherwise known as Memorial Day, which is observed as a national holiday and honors the members of the armed forces that have fallen serving the United States.

I’d like to wish all the mothers in the United States, Mexico, and the rest of the world a day that is full of joy, happiness, and, more than anything, many moments together in family. I hope it is a very special day for you and that you enjoy yourself wholly. To the ones that have already left us, let us remember the beautiful moments that will always remain in our lives and hearts.

All my love and affection, always!
