The Best Of Two Worlds

Editor Letter

alma tucson life styleSummer flew by and in the blink of an eye, our children will soon be back to school. As always, it’s last minute shopping at local stores for uniforms, shoes, backpacks, school supplies, and more. Of course, it has to be new and shiny for the little ones, as well as the teenagers starting a new school year.
Remember it is very important that children take a healthy snack to school, along with their school lunch. It is always good to include a fruit or vegetable in season, granola bar, yogurt, raisins, nuts, or wheat biscuits low in salt.
Another great piece of advice for all parents, is to help their children in their daily tasks, such as reading a book with them at least three times a week. This expands their imagination and will take them to a new world of possibilities. University or college education always starts with strong habits developed during pre-school and elementary school years. We hope your school year is fantastic!
At this time, I also want to invite anyone who has been a U.S. resident and has lived 5 years or longer, to take their citizenship test. As a U.S. Citizen, you can count on having access to more job opportunities which will help you generate higher salaries. You can aspire to climb the career ladder in the company where you already work. Or, perhaps find employment in a political office, be part of a community group, and above all, get involved with the decisions and laws that govern this country and our state.
The Department of Homeland Security has options for low income applicants who cannot afford to pay the fees for processing their citizenship applications. For more information, please visit the website at www.dhs.gov. I firmly believe that we should all be working toward expanding our options for a better job, more income, and better quality of life. With this, education is vital and there are many options for financial assistance with loans or federal grants that do not have to be paid back. I want to challenge you! Nothing ventured nothing gained!
Arizona Bilingual Newspaper/Kidz Expo wants to thank each and every one of our sponsors, clients, media, volunteers, friends, and the team at Univision & Unimas Arizona, La Caliente 101.3, Ward 5-Richard Fimbres along with his team. These loyal supporters have always been there to help with our community relations and outreach efforts.
Special thanks to Richard Elias – Pima County District 5, www.beat33radio.com, 58.2 LATV-TV, and all children and people who joined us this past Saturday, August 2 at El Pueblo Activity Center. The reality that our 40 sponsors, non-profit organizations and other customers were present, with an attendance of over 3,500 people, and that we were able to give away backpacks, school supplies, gift certificates, bicycles, and lots of good information about education, health, and community resources, was a dream come true.
No doubt, teamwork always pays off! I am very proud of such a great event and especially for having been able to put a smile on our children’s faces. Thank you! We look forward to our Kidz Expo & Back to School event in 2015!
Your friend as always,
