Eighty six (86) million Americans have pre-diabetes,
but only 10 percent of those are aware of their condition.
Individuals have pre-diabetes whenthey have blood glucose levels that are higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. Through the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, the Y is helping people make healthier choices that can help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. These classes provide a supportive environment where you can work with others in a small group setting to learn how to adopt healthy habits to reduce your chances of developing the disease. Individuals need to qualify for the program with diagnosis of pre-diabetes OR be at high risk due to family history or other factors.
