New outdoor cafés and seating areas are beginning to appear in Downtown Tucson, thanks to a grant program between the Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) and Pima County.
The new Outdoor Café Grant Program provides up to $5,000 to expand or enhance outdoor cafés. This program is designed to offset costs associated with higher-quality barriers, furnishings, and amenities for outdoor seating areas.
The DTP has received 19 outdoor café applications totaling a little more than $99,000. The City of Tucson recently enacted temporary regulations making it possible for food and beverage establishments to expand their seating areas in walkways, parking lots, and other spaces while continuing to meet accessibility, safety, and social distancing requirements.
