February 21, 2023 – Genaro Garcia Luna, who partook as Secretary of Public Security in Mexico during the administration of former president Felipe Calderon, was found guilty of drug trafficking and other charges by a jury in Brooklyn, New York. The high-ranking official was one of the key individuals in the violent campaign against organized crime groups during the Calderon’s six-year term. However, the jury concluded that Garcia Luna was leading a double life, affirming that he was in the payroll of the same criminal organs he persecuted, among them the Sinaloa Cartel.
