A “pop up beach” is one part of the streetcar celebrations today and is available to the public through August 31st. The beach sits on the MLK lot, opposite the patio at Hotel Congress (at Toole and 5th Avenue), along the streetcar route. More than 170 tons of trucked-in sand we make up the beach, where you can build a castle, play volleyball, and schedule events for you or your company for free. The pop up beach is completely privately-funded and available to all. “There’s a movement across the country to activate public spaces,” said Michael Keith, Downtown Tucson Partnership CEO. In addition, the Downtown Tucson Partnership website says, “This is really just the tip of the iceberg, as Downtown Tucson embraces an entirely new mindset for what our community is capable of when it comes out to work, live, and play. Stay tuned for more!”From Downtown Tucson Partnership: http://bit.ly/1kaWkJf
