The Best Of Two Worlds

The City of Tucson prepares for the monsoon through Operation ‘Splash.’

Every year, monsoon season brings about the closure of many streets due to the heavy rainfall that can take place. This, summed to the largely lacking rain infrastructure in the city, equals to a potential hazard to the community at-large, especially those living in areas close to mountains, washes, and dip crossings.

To combat this, the City of Tucson launched Operation Splash earlier this month, mobilizing resources from the Department of Transportation and Mobility to deliver blockades in dangerous areas. DTM is also offering residents in flood-prone areas and the population in general to go and fill up sandbags at distinct self-service points, such as the east parking lot of Hi Corbett Field on 700 S. Randolph Way, by Reid Park.
