LOS CHANGUITOS FEOS DE TUCSON

The first youth Mariachi formally established in the United States is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with several events scheduled August 21-23, 2014. The main highlight of the Anniversary is a celebratory concert to be held Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. in the Tucson Convention Center Music Hall.

Honorary Co-Chairs for the event are Linda Ronstadt and Dan Guerrero. Changuitos alumni and supporters will be part of the reunion celebration on Aug. 21 and 22 at the Marriott University Park Hotel in Tucson. The reunion will feature social events with opportunities to reconnect with those who played in Los Changuitos group. There will be panel discussions on the history and growth of mariachi music in the United States and its contribution to southwestern culture, a special showing of a 1967 documentary about Los Changuitos, filmed in Tucson by CBS News only three years after the group was formed.

A special Recognition Dinner will take place at the Tucson Marriott University Park on Friday, August 22, 2014, that will include the recognition of the first inductees of the Los Changuitos Feos Alumni Hall of Fame. For tickets or information go to email or website listed below.

The Concert on Saturday will feature Mariachi Cobre from Disney World in Orlando, FL. Some of the musicians in Mariachi Cobre were members of the original Los Changuitos group.
