Iternational Airport Announce American Airlines Tucson-New York Flights
After more than a year and a half of gathering support, the Tucson Metro Chamber and Tucson International Airport are pleased to announce that American Airlines will start non-stop service to and from New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport starting October 7.
The new flights will give Southern Arizonans direct access to the Big Apple and new one-stop connections to international destinations and the northeast U.S.
As Frank Sinatra would say, “Start spreading the news!”
“This is exactly what many people have been working so hard to accomplish and we want to thank them,” said Bonnie Allin, President and CEO of the Tucson Airport Authority. “It is the most exciting air service news this region has had in many years. Let’s keep this momentum going and make sure the flight is a success. Now there’s nothing stopping you when you fly Tucson to New York.”
Tucson Metro Chamber President and CEO Michael Varney agreed. “This flight is critical to the growth of our business community and our vibrant tourism sector. Making Tucson easy for business and leisure travelers to access from New York City opens the door for more commerce in our region,” Varney said.
The Chamber’s Air Service Task Force was led by CAID Industries CEO Bill Assenmacher. “We send immense gratitude to all of the companies and organizations that supported this effort. Reaching our goal to support this new route is the result of a lot of hard work and a lot of confidence that we could make it happen. More than 46 business and community leaders have been involved in the Task Force effort to secure this important new service,” said Assenmacher.
“Now it’s in place in time for the start of our busy winter tourism season.”
