2023 edition of the yokohama sonora rally

For the first time in history, the World Rally Championship (FIA World Rally Championship) of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) was approved to include Mexico, specifically Sonora, in its international calendar. This would be the 2023 edition of the Yokohama Sonora Rally, which will debut as a qualifying competition for the world championship held later in Dakar, Africa.

The Sonora Rally is a journey of all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles through different parts of the entity, lasting 5 to 15 days. Its first edition was in 2014. This year was October 17 to 23, with a route of around 600 to 5000 kilometers.

This cross-country race is the premier cross-country rally event in North America. That includes motorcycles, ATVs, 2wd and 4wd cars, Jeeps, Raptors, and Tacomas, among others. It will take place from April 24 to 28, 2023, in Hermosillo, with two days of prior technical inspection from April 22 to 23. The contest winners will be able to go directly to the next stage. This classification usually has a value of 20 thousand dollars. International competitors from Spain, Argentina, Morocco, and the Arabian Peninsula, among others, will participate.

In this regard, the secretary of Tourism in Sonora, Celida López Cárdenas, accompanied by the president and primary delegate of the Sonora Rally, Darren Skilton, commented: “It is the first global event in rallies in the world where Mexico has a date, and it is in Sonora. We want to invite you to be part. We are proud of this great opportunity that our state has to appear in this world calendar of sporting events that are aimed at a sector. It allows us to make Sonora be heard loudly.”

It is expected that during the days of the competition, a considerable economic spill will be generated by the visit of competitors, family members, technicians, and the media who attend this adventure and sports tourism event. In addition, the promotion will be of great benefit to put Sonora on the map of sports fans, who will know the great potential the state offers for holding related events.
