Industrial Rehabilitation Team at Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital

 

The Outpatient Industrial Rehabilitation Team at Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital is one of this year’s winners of the prestigious Robert M. Ramirez, Sr., Award for Excellence in Customer Service presented by Carondelet Health Network. Winners of this award were selected based on exemplary achievement in the arena of customer service and individuals and groups within the network who go the extra mile and give extra effort to exceed customer expectations were considered. Candidates from within the Carondelet were judged on their capacity to inspire others, exceed support service excellence expectations. The positive comments of patients, family members, physicians and/or staff members were considered in determining the award recipients.

The Industrial Team at Carondelet St. Mary’s Outpatient Rehab provides specialized therapy services designed to return individuals to work as efficiently and as quickly as possible. The Industrial Rehabilitation program is located in the Center for Outpatient Rehabilitation at Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital and has been successfully getting injured workers back on the job for over 25 years. Services available at Carondelet St. Mary’s Outpatient Rehab include Work Hardening/Conditioning, Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE), Physical Therapy, Aquatic Therapy, Hand Therapy/Occupational Therapy and Speech & Language Services.

The Robert M. Ramirez, Sr., Award for Excellence in Customer Service presents an opportunity for Carondelet St. Joseph’s, Carondelet St. Mary’s, and Carondelet Holy Cross Hospitals to celebrate associates, physicians and volunteers who consistently excel in delivering excellence in customer service and who are unwavering in their commitment to high standards. This award was established as a tribute to Robert M. Ramirez, Sr., (1924-2013) who generously served his family, his community and his country throughout his life. A resident of Nogales, Arizona since the age of four, he was actively involved in his community and was regarded by his family and colleagues as a mentor, coach and best friend. Mr. Ramirez honorably served his country in WWII in the Army Air Corp and flew 26 combat missions in B-17 and B-24 bombers. Upon returning home, he married his childhood girlfriend, Leonor Cortinas, and they remained together for 45 years until her passing in 1995. Together they raised four children. Mr. Ramirez was exceptionally gifted in public speaking and in connecting with groups of people. Nicknamed “The Fab” by his friends, he was described as being a very elegant man who was always impeccably dressed.

Robert M. Ramirez, Sr. lived a truly meaningful life as a U.S. soldier, community leader, mentor, coach, and friend to many in Nogales, Arizona. Mr. Ramirez passed away in 2013 at the age of 89 after spending some time in the care of the physicians and associates at Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital. His loved ones are in alignment with the mission of the Carondelet Health Network that truly compassionate, attentive care can make a tremendous difference for any patient and family dealing with a significant illness.
