The Pima County Board of Supervisors yesterday, Dec. 15, voted to impose a mandatory 10 p.m.-5 a.m. curfew throughout the county in an effort to stop the soaring rate of COVID-19 infections.
Since the Board of Supervisors asked county residents to voluntarily adhere to a curfew on Nov. 24, more than 15,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 93 have died. The curfew will end when the rate of transmission falls below 100 cases per 100,000 population.
The current rate in Pima County is well above that. To enforce the curfew, Supervisors authorized the County Health Department to suspend or revoke County-issued operating permits or licenses for businesses that allow individuals to violate the curfew.
Earlier this month, Supervisors also mandated that everyone in Pima County wear face masks when out in public. Individuals who fail to follow the face mask mandate could be fined $50, and businesses that don’t require employees or patrons to wear face masks could be fined $500.
