Several different circumstances, due to the pandemic, have facilitated the spread of elder abuse. There has been a shortage of licensed caregivers, low pay, and caregiver burnout. Also, social isolation, which is a risk factor for abuse, has kept family members from visiting and checking in on their older loved ones. There are 51 cases of reported elder abuse in the first months of 2022 which are reported to the Vulnerable Adult Prosecution Investigation Team.
