You have probably heard that the month of November represents for many men a time to grow a little of their facial hair in an attempt to see if they grow a beard or not.
But you may not know the motive behind the move.
The movement tries to raise awareness not only about cancer prevention (prostate, testicular, and colon, in particular), but also about mental health, suicide prevention, parenting, and health in general.
It all started in 2009 when members of the Chicagoland Hill Family – a non-profit organization in the United States – decided to adopt the concept of not shaving to collect money for altruistic purposes.
It is not very difficult to participate in No Shave November. All you have to do is stop shaving for 30 days during November. Any money you would normally spend on shaving facial hair or maintaining a beard can be donated to participating charities or a cancer charity of your choice.
You are encouraged to start clean-shaven in early November. However, if you already have a beard, simply leave it untamed for a month. That means you can’t shave, trim, or comb your beard at all. Don’t cheat!
