Several weeks ago, I led a letter with Mayors from both Maricopa and Pima County in support of a new passenger rail route connecting our two regions. This led to a recent roundtable discussion that I participated in with the CEO of Amtrak, members of our Congressional Delegation, and members from our business community. We discussed how this new service will yield important economic benefits throughout the region, increase travel options for millions of Arizonans, reduce congestion on I-10, and mitigate our carbon footprint. Importantly, $66 billion is included in the federal bi-partisan infrastructure legislation to expand passenger rail service throughout the country. My office continues to work closely with Amtrak to make this exciting opportunity a reality. You can learn more about the proposal by reading this recent article by Forbes or by visiting Amtrak’s website. These would be the places and cities in our state: |
