By Mayor Regina Romero
Our region’s natural resources and environment are among our greatest assets. Across the country, people are leaving for places like Tucson that offer wide-open spaces and more than three hundred days of sunshine. Our unique climate, coupled with our proximity to the U.S./Mexico corridor, our UNESCO City of Gastronomy designation, and access to the University of Arizona and high-skilled talent from Pima Community College continue to fuel our growth. In 2022, we are unveiling our City’s strategic plan for economic development and will continue to partner with Sun Corridor to facilitate job and investment growth to attract world-class business investment to capitalize on our regional strengths. Meanwhile, recent federal infrastructure funding present exciting new opportunities for transformative projects such as Bus Rapid Transit and the possibility of a streetcar extension to spur additional economic development.
Like most cities, small businesses are the backbone of our community. Which is why the City of Tucson is investing in Small Business Navigators to provide technical assistance and support to startups, small businesses, and minority and women-owned businesses.
To move us into the Tucson we want and deserve, my administration is putting forward strategic plans for economic development; housing affordability; climate resilience; community safety, health, and wellness; and arts, history, and culture. Working together, we will achieve the just, equitable future we envision, where every single Tucsonan can live their best lives in our thriving, resilient city. Our natural beauty, history, heritage, and culture provide our foundation. With our strategic plans in hand, and a Mayor and Council ready to act, we are prepared to step into our collective future.
