Officials from both sides of the Border are asking non-essential travelers to stay at home. These same officials have also been tracking the constant rise of COVID-19 cases.
The border states/towns are the ones that suffer the increased number of cases although the rest of the country is testing lower.
For example, the 6 border states in Mexico had about 600 cases, although the country had been testing lower. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the Mexican president, in a press release asked the Holy Week visitors to not visit, not travel to the beaches.
Many other officials are taking matters into their own hands by setting up curfews and checkpoints to fine the violators, banning the sale of alcohol until a certain date in case these Holy Week travelers disobey the Mexican President’s asking.
