Bullying is a serious problem worldwide. According to the analysis of this organization, 40% of students at primary and secondary levels have suffered bullying. The incidence of bullying occurs equally in public institutions, as in private schools.
Types of bullying
• Verbal: ranges from actions as simple as calling names, ignoring a colleague on purpose, to ridiculing someone
• Physical: in these cases, the victim is subjected to blows, kicks, shoves. Even your belongings can be destroyed
• Covert: This type of bullying is more difficult to identify, since it is based on lying, spreading rumors, deliberate exclusion or making practical jokes
• Cyber bullying: This type of bullying usually occurs through social networks
Signs of bullying
• Sudden mood swings
• Injuries or wounds that are unexplained
• Loss or damage of personal belongings
• Lower school performance
• Increased frequency of headaches or stomach aches
• Sudden changes in eating habits
• Trouble sleeping
• Excessive zeal for the cell phone or the computer
• Excuses for not going to school
• Avoidance of any subject related to school
• Social isolation
• Low self-esteem
• Self-destructive behaviors
Recommendations
If you think there may be a case of bullying in your environment, this is what you should do:
• Approach the person being bullied and make them see that they are not alone
• Express your concern and interest in their well-being
• Report the case to the corresponding authorities
• If you are able to do so, confront the bully
• Do not repeat rumors or celebrate practical jokes
