Remembering all those who have died serving their country in combat.

 

Memorial Day is commemorated each year at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia, with a ceremony in which a small American flag is placed on each grave. Traditionally, the president or vice president lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Also giving a speech to honor the memory of those who died in combat and placing the United States flag at half-mast, from dawn to noon.

Since 1971, Congress has declared the last Monday in May a federal holiday and in 2000, Congress passed the National Remembrance Act, to encourage Americans to observe a minute of silence at midnight. 3 PM that day in memory of those who fell in service to the nation.
