Good afternoon, Tucson. I’m Mayor Regina Romero here with your Monday updates.
We have extended the local emergency declaration through June 8th to align with Governor Ducey’s new executive order ” and with the Pima County Board of Supervisors’ guidelines to safely operate restaurants, bars, resorts, gyms, and other facilities.
The proclamation includes guidelines on re-opening city government to ensure the health and safety of members of the public and city employees. The city is looking for ways to support our residents who have been hit hard and will continue the moratorium on (1) Tucson Water disconnects and late fee penalties and (2) on evictions at city-owned facilitiesthrough the end of June, at which point the policies will be re-examined for extension.
As we begin to safely re-open, I strongly advise that all persons, at all times, adhere to CDC guidelines, practice social distancing and wear a face coveringwhile out in public. These are small actions we can take to protect our neighbors and healthcare workers while we continue to fight the pandemic.
In some good news, according to Moody’s Analytics, Tucson has been listed as one of the top 10 cities in the country that are best positioned to recover from Covid19. This is great news and reinforces what we know about Tucson, and how resilient and creative we are. It’s going to take work and it won’t necessarily be easy, but we have a LOT going for us – and Tucson, I believe in what we can do together.
In other news, last Friday during the National Peace Officers Memorial Day, our Police department honored and remembered the 8 Tucson Police Officers who made the ultimate sacrifice serving our community. Thank you to our police and park officers who keep our community safe every single day.
