Adelita S. Grijalva

A native Tucsonan, educated through Tucson Unified School District and the University of Arizona, Adelita Grijalva is committed to improving the quality of life in Pima County. She was elected in November 2020 to the Pima County Board of Supervisors in District 5 to a four-year term. The first Latina elected to this position, and is serving as Vice-Chair.

Adelita remains a member of the TUSD Governing Board and is currently serving as President for her fifth four-year term on the board. She has worked with youth and their families for the last twenty-seven years and has the experience and dedication to fight for the right for each child to achieve academic excellence and have an opportunity to succeed.

Adelita served as the Director of Pima County Teen Court, a Juvenile Court diversion program, for more than 25 years before beginning her service as a Pima County Supervisor.

As Supervisor, Adelita has made a strong commitment to working in the community to create a coalition to recover from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and rebuild a vibrant Pima County. She believes that safety, affordable housing and strong job creation are central to those recovery efforts. 

Adelita is proud that organizations dedicated to diversity, inclusion, education and equity for all have supported her throughout her career.

Adelita lives in Tucson with her husband Sol and their three children, Adelina, Raúl and Joaquin.

Babette McDonald

is the Director of the 88-CRIME Program with the Pima County Attorney’s Office. She is a native Arizonan and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Arizona.  Babette has worked for the County Attorney’s Office for 29 years and during this time she has worked in supervisory positions in Diversion, Victim Services, and now 88-CRIME. Babette has shared her experiences and knowledge while fostering and maintaining strong working relationships with local, state, and national agencies to include law enforcement, courts, and community-based agencies. Babette has a passion for the criminal justice system, increasing community safety, and cross sector collaboration and she has dedicated her professional life to this. 

 In her free time, Babette enjoys spending time with her family to include her husband, daughter, and daughter’s fiancé.  She enjoys going for walks, traveling, and going to arts and crafts festivals. Babette prides herself in being a professional who is career oriented, while also being a present mother and wife.

Marina Jimenez

Nativa de Guadalajara, Jalisco México.

Ella tiene 44 años y es madre de 3 hijos. Llego a la ciudad de Tucson, Arizona en el 2001 con la meta de poder obtener mejores oportunidades económicas de las que tenía en su país y así poder tener una vida estable para ella y su familia.  Durante algunos años de vida en este país se ha enfocado en el servicio comunitario con diferentes organizaciones. Para Marina es algo sumamente importante, como ser humano, eso le ha abierto puertas de alguna manera en cuestión de trabajo, apoyo social, económico y emocional.  

Cuando sus hijos acudían a la escuela temprana, ella conoció otras madres que al igual que ellas tenían preocupaciones personales, es ahí donde descubre el interés de crear un grupo de mujeres para reunirse una hora y ofrecerles una clase de baile (Zumba) ejercicios como una manera de quitar el estrés, sanar una manera de tener terapia gratuita.  Ahí fue donde surgió la idea de certificarse como Instructora de Zumba.  

Actualmente, dona su tiempo en el YWCA como voluntaria con un grupo de mujeres que nos hacemos llamar a todo Folklor, lo cual le encanta porque en este grupo puede fomentar su idea principal, como (sanar emociones) solo que aquí se utiliza música regional mexicana, en donde incorpora alguna coreografía básica y facil para las participantes. 

También forma parte de las promotoras (No al racismo, No a la violencia de genero) Ella también continua su colaboración con el Banco de comida, a la vez como Instructora de Zumba y apoyando a la comunidad en lo que este a su alcance.

Leticia Ortiz

Madre de 2 hermosas hijas que son el pilar de su vida:  Aracely y Vanessa, quienes nacieron en Reno, Nevada, Araceli le dio la dicha de darle dos hermosas nietas Magdalene Aiko de 13 años y la pequeña Odette de 5 años.

Ella llego a Tucson hace 17 años, en donde se le dio la oportunidad de trabajar en los medios de comunicación, en los cuales ella ya trabajaba en Reno, Nevada. En aquel estado trabajo en diferentes canales de televisión y estaciones de Radio, vendiendo publicidad y apoyando a los negocios con su publicidad.

En el año 2000, inicia el gran sueño de su vida, el de conducir un programa televisivo local “Nuestra Hora”. En el 2011 surgió la idea de hacer este programa “Nuestra Hora con Lety en Tucson, el cual ha estado en varias televisiones locales. Actualmente ella labora para Azteca Tucson Canal 14, en donde se trasmite su programa local. 

Letty, siempre apoya a la comunidad en varios eventos, además de su simpatía y calidez humana que irradia.

Patty Ruiz

Was born in Bisbee AZ, grew up in Tucson graduating from Sunnyside High School.  She started her broadcast career in 1974 working in Traffic then moving into sales and management.  Her passion to the Hispanic community led her to Telemundo where she was the General Sales Manager, for both Tucson and Phoenix, Sales manager for Clear Channel Hispanic radio division, general sales, and national sales manager for Azteca Spanish television and currently General Manager for Bustos Radio Group where she manages 4 radio stations!  

Patty serves on several community boards, Secretary for the Arizona Broadcasters, secretary for the Tucson Hispanic chamber, board member and past president of the Tucson Advertising Federation!  Patty’s many awards over the years include the Tucson Ad Fed, Warren F Olsen award for sales and service, LULAC FBI community service award for outstanding dedication to the Hispanic community, Valle del Sol’s Profiles of Success Leadership, in Phoenix, she was recognized as the Advertising Professional of the Year and inducted to the Advertising Hall of Fame. Patty has 3 children Michael, Sonia and Melissa and is a proud grandmother of 6

Rosa M. Lucatero

Llega a Tucson, AZ., desde California con su esposo Ruben Verduzco y su primer hijo Kevin en el 2006. Sin nada en las bolsas, cargada de sueños y proyectos y con la determinación de empezar de nuevo. 

En el 2008 nace su segundo hijo Richard y junto con él una tremenda recesión en todo el país, tiempos difíciles para todos, ellos no fueron la excepción. En el 2010 llega una noticia que cambiaría sus vidas, ya que se diagnostica a su hijo Richard de Autismo, una noticia muy difícil que causa miedo y temor por desconocer el tema. 

Esto impulsa a Rosa y su esposo Ruben, su incondicional a crear su propio negocio, para así poder dedicarle más tiempo a sus hijos. Al paso del tiempo las cosas se balancean y tienen muy buenos resultados con el negocio y con más tiempo de calidad para sus hijos.  Iniciaron con una pequeña carreta, fueron creciendo tanto que compraron un local, el cual establecieron en el 2018. 

En la búsqueda de una niña llegó nuestro tercer varón Christian.   Ser madre no es una limitación es un impulso para lograr los sueños, metas y proyectos, Rosa, ¡les puede decir que…Si se puede!

Hoy por hoy es la propietaria del Restaurante la Yoca, ubicado en Sur 6th Avenida en Tucson, AZ. Un restaurante único de carnitas de puerco estilo Michoacán; además de otros platillos suculentos. Ellos cuentan con 14 empleados que son como familia para ellos. Rosa y Ruben se han convertido en empresarios exitosos, diariamente brindan servicio, calidad y una atención al cliente de primera.

Mayor Regina Romero

Was elected in November of 2019, becoming the first woman and first Latina Mayor of Tucson. Raised by immigrant farmworkers in Somerton, Arizona, Regina broke barriers early on as the first member of her family to vote and first to graduate from college.

Mayor Romero’s policy priorities include Community Safety, Health & Wellness; Housing Affordability; Transportation and Mobility; Climate Action; and Economic Development among others. Mayor Romero is the Co-Chair of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, and an Inaugural Member of the Mayors Alliance to End Hunger. She is also a member of the Climate Mayors Network.

Regina Romero holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arizona and a post-graduate certificate from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. Regina is the proud mother of two bi-lingual, bi-cultural, and bi-adorable children, Emiliano and Luciana, and has been married to Ruben Reyes for 18 years.
