PIMA COUNTY, June 11, 2024 – Pima County’s Diamonds in the Sky celebration is returning to Kino Sports Complex July 4 pairing two All-American favorites: baseball and fireworks. This year’s celebration will feature a match-up of college all-stars from the Sun Belt College Baseball League, a summer league featuring players from across college baseball, taking on a team featuring players from the Mexican College all-stars presented by the Mexican Baseball Fiesta.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.; first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with a 30-minute fireworks display immediately following the game.
For the second year in a row the County is partnering with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona to help raise awareness of food insecurity across the region. Admission to the game and fireworks is $1 or one non-perishable food item per person, with all proceeds benefitting the Food Bank. In 2023 the Diamonds in the Sky event partnership allowed the Food Bank to provide more than 12,000 meals to families across the region.
“There is no better way to celebrate Independence Day than with baseball and fireworks,” said Sarah Horvath, Kino Sports Complex Director. “Kino Sports Complex is the premier facility in Southern Arizona and we couldn’t be more excited about spending the holiday with the community.”
“This is a great way to pair a family event with a way to support our community,” added Malea Chavez, CEO of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. “These donations from the July 4th Diamonds in the Sky Celebration come at a critical time of year when we see the number of food drives slow down, while demand remains high. We’re very grateful for this support.”
