The Best Of Two Worlds

Way to Prosperity

Mayor Rothschild recently quoted the Census Bureau and stated the Hispanic Residents in Tucson now account for 42% of the population within the city limits.

Tucson attracts more than 3.46 million visitors from Mexico each year and the city’s convention and visitors bureau is aggressively marketing the city across the border in the neighboring Mexican state of Sonora. J. Felipe Garcia, vice president of community affairs and Mexico marketing for the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau, said a steady number of Mexican visitors are continuing to shop in the United States despite the economic troubles that are also gripping Mexico, where retail sales are falling along with the value of the peso.

“The mentality of the Mexican visitor in these times of economic crisis is very different than in the U.S.,” Mr. Garcia said. “The people in the U.S. are afraid of spending. But people in Mexico, they are used to economic devaluations, recessions and crisis. In their mind, they are not scared.”
The convention bureau has an office in Hermosillo and Mr. Garcia said it would soon open offices farther south in Los Mochis and Culiacan, both in the state of Sinaloa. All three cities have higher average incomes than the nearby border towns of Nogales and Agua Prieta.

About the Prize-Winning Photo

Just for the fun of it, Mario Arosemena has been capturing digital images of Arizona’s beautiful surroundings whenever his spare time allows. His fulltime career keeps him more than busy as  an insurance agent for American Family Insurance based in south-eastern Tucson.

He devotes most of his time to professional duties; but has had the opportunity to capture some unique moments at monumental places like this image of Baboquivari Peak.” This Peak is part of a range which is West of the I-19 Corridor.  For many this mountain is sacred, and for others a distinguishable landmark that is part of Southern Arizona.  The face of the Peak shown is captured from the west side of the range, facing east while witnessing the sprinkle of snow fall upon its top.
