The Best Of Two Worlds

Our Tucson Hispanic Chamber has grown

PrintOur Tucson Hispanic Chamber has grown dramatically over the last few years and is now the largest chamber in Southern Arizona and the largest Latino business organization in Arizona! Much of the growth stems from our chamber’s action-oriented, grassroots approach to business and to our focus on untapped business opportunities in our region. One of the most valuable opportunities for Arizona businesses is building relationships with companies in Mexico. We believe that our activities in both Arizona and Sonora are vital to building lasting supply chain connections and to improving trade volume between our two countries.

What specific actions are we doing to improve Arizona’s trade relations with Mexico?
Continuous presence in Mexico: Our chamber regularly hosts trade mission trips for business leaders and elected officials to communities in Northern Mexico. The trips typically include touring industrial plants, meeting with City leaders and economic development officials and Mexican chambers of commerce. We have hosted recent trips to Hermosillo, Mexicali and Nogales, Sonora just to name a few. Our next trip will be to El Paso/Juarez in August.
Perception of Mexico: We work closely with over 25 media partners in Arizona and Sonora to improve the perception of Mexico in Arizona and Arizona in Mexico. Impacting public perception is key to growing trade relations. We regularly provide our media partners with leads on positive business stories and industry trends to improve our bi-national connections.
Legislative Action: Our chamber closely monitors local, state and federal legislative bills that can negatively impact trade promotion. In addition, we have committed to educate our state legislators on the business opportunities that can be gained by a stronger relationship with Northern Mexico. We recently hosted a delegation of State Legislators to Nogales, Sonora and are planning additional trips in the Fall.
Business Education: Our chamber regularly hosts events with partners on “Business Opportunities in Sonora” in Arizona and events on “Doing Business in Arizona” in Sonora. We promote data and resources that can be helpful to businesses on both sides of the border.
Regional Approach: In 2014, our chamber launched affiliate Hispanic chambers in Sierra Vista, Douglas and Ambos Nogales. This was done to encourage business transactions and collaboration throughout Southern Arizona as well as Northern Mexico, and to promote the importance of the Hispanic market and trade throughout the region. In addition, our recent strategic partnership with the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry includes access for our members to 500 of the largest businesses in our state.

The Tucson Hispanic Chamber advocates on behalf of our business community to strengthen Arizona’s trade relationship with Mexico and other Latin American countries. Membership is open to all businesses (You do not have to be Hispanic or speak Spanish to join). Learn more at www.TucsonHispanicChamber.org or by calling 520-620-0005.
