Tucson, AZ – W2’s are being sent out from employers right now and a lot of people will begin the process of filing their taxes. With that comes the search for a tax preparer. There are different
things to look for during your search.
Look for credentials: Be sure they are a certified public accountant, tax attorney or an enrolled agent. All three can represent you before the IRS, including an audit.
Do not fall for the promise of a big refund: Be wary of tax preparation services promising larger refunds than their competition. Avoid any tax preparer who bases their fee on a percentage of the refund.
Year Round Customer Service: Some tax preparation services are only available for the months leading up to April 15. If the IRS finds an error with your return, or in case of an audit, make sure you are able to contact your tax preparer at any time of the year.
Understand your contract: Make sure you read and understand your contract so you understand all of the issues involved, such as how much its going to cost you for the service and how the cost will be affected if it is more complicated or time consuming. Also ensure that the tax preparer will represent you in the case of an audit.
Do your Research: Use BBB Accredited tax preparers in your local area to ensure you’re getting the best service possible and they will adhere to all of the standards listed above.
