Bourbon Honey Glazed Ham
** 2/3 cup bourbon or whiskey
** 1 cup clover honey
** 1/3 cup molasses
** 1/2 cup 100 percent fruit orange marmalade
** Non-stick cooking spray
** 1 (5-pound) whole bone-in smoked ham, fully cooked, unsliced
** 1/8 cup whole cloves
In a medium saucepan, heat bourbon, honey, molasses, and marmalade over low heat for 15 minutes or until reduced by half, stirring occasionally. (When measuring honey and molasses, spray measuring cup with nonstick cooking spray to keep measurements accurate.) Set aside.
With a sharp knife, cut a diamond pattern on the fatty part of the ham. Stud whole cloves in each diamond, at points where lines cross. Spread half of the bourbon glaze over the ham and roast for 30 minutes, uncovered. Baste occasionally with remaining glaze and continue to roast for another 15 minutes. Let ham stand for 20 minutes before slicing.
Five ways to de-stress and relax
After a busy Christmas
You are exhausted. From running a marathon in shopping malls for the perfect Christmas presents, to countless hours at work wrapping up year-end projects and planning for the New Year, to planning parties and hosting guests. You are exhausted, and it’s time to unwind from the holiday stress
Even though for many the Christmas period is the “Holiday” season, you can forget to stop, relax and actually take a holiday. So here are five great ways to have a little holiday during your Christmas break this year.
See a new release movie
We have a tendency to prioritize others first during this festive season – but now the season is over, it is time to start paying attention to our own needs. Leave the house, watch anything you want, and escape reality for a few hours.
When was the last time you had a good massage? Allow your body to relax as the stresses get kneaded out of your back, neck, legs and feet. Find a local masseuse and book an appointment to make sure you get some “me” time.
Disconnect yourself from the Internet and turn off your phone. Even pull the power cord from the TV and go for a walk or do something creative like writing or drawing. Regain some of the passion, energy, creativity that often gets diminished that we allow ourselves to get sucked into our phones, computers, televisions and other devices.
Take a day trip
There are plenty of fantastic, hidden gems like desolate beaches and hidden rainforest waterfalls within a couple of hours drive from most places in Australia. Find your local treasure, pack a picnic and hit the road for a beautiful, peaceful day away.
Curling up with a good book and reading at your own pace can be the ultimate relaxation activity. Buy yourself a new book or read one you get for Christmas with a cool glass of iced tea as a beautiful way to spend a summer’s day.
Make sure you give yourself some extra love this Christmas and relax – because hey, isn’t that what the holidays are for?
